LOFOTEN WINTER AURORA PHOTO WORKSHOP
Photography Workshop
No winter tour to Lofoten would be complete without bringing home images and experiencing the greatest magic show on Earth. The Aurora Borealis is visible, weather permitting, in Lofoten from September to April. Our second focus is capturing unique images of ice/winter, the breathtakingly beautiful and world renowned mountains, colorful fjords and pristine beaches, as well as the picturesque and authentic red Lofoten cabins. Photographic opportunities are present around every single corner.
During the tours our main focus will be on capturing the elusive but strikingly beautiful Aurora Borealis a.k.a. Northern Lights.
Day 1: Arrival – Evenes
We meet up at Evenes (EVE), get settled in our spacious minivans and start our Arctic adventure. Whilst driving southwest towards the Lofoten islands, we will all get to know eachother and discuss our itinerary and the exciting days ahead. If weather and time permits it, we’ll shoot sunset and Aurora Borealis as soon as arriving at our basecamp.
Lofoten is, and has been for centuries, a place: where artists find endless inspiration from the surroundings.
Lofoten offers unique and unforgettable experiences; Northern Lights, amazing fjords, rugged mountains.
Since the Viking Age, the Lofoten Islands have been integral to the Norwegian Arctic cod (Skrei) fishing industry. The tradition of fishing for Skrei involves a seasonal fishing period known as “lofotfiske,” which typically takes place from February to April. This period is crucial for the local economy and has deep-rooted cultural and historical ties. Fishermen from the region, as well as other areas, participate in this seasonal cod fishing. The fisherman’s cabins in the Lofoten Islands have a rich history and were originally built as accommodation for the fishermen during the lofotfiske season. These cabins provided a practical and temporary living space for the fishermen who traveled to the islands for the fishing expedition. Over time, these cabins have become iconic symbols of the region.Nowaday, staying in a fisherman’s cabin has become a popular and sought-after experience for travelers. These cabins offer a glimpse into the historical connection between the local community and the fishing industry, and they provide a cozy and picturesque retreat for those seeking an authentic Lofoten experience.
Day 8: Departure – Evenes
After the breakfast, we will transport you to Evenes Airport (EVE) in due time for your flight home, with the wonderful memories and images.
In Japanese folklore, there is a belief that if a woman becomes pregnant under the Northern Lights, her child will be bestowed with good luck and fortune. According to this legend, the Northern Lights are considered the spirits of unborn children awaiting their birth. When a child is conceived beneath the lights, it is said that the spirit of the unborn child joins the other spirits, bringing blessings and good fortune to the family.
