Stop Taking Random Photos. Start a Photography Project You’ll Remember.

Most photographers have thousands of photos sitting on their hard drive.

Beautiful sunsets. Holidays. City skylines. Weekend outings.

But here’s a question.

How many of those photos do you actually remember taking?

I’ve realised that the photographs we treasure most are usually part of something bigger. A project. A journey. A story with a purpose.

Give Yourself a Reason to Photograph

This year, Singapore celebrates her 61st birthday.

Instead of going out and shooting whatever catches your eye, why not give yourself a simple challenge?

Walk 6.1km

Take at least 6 photographs during each walk.

Do it 10 times.

By National Day or end of August, you’ll have walked 61km and created a collection of at least 61 photographs.

Not random pictures.

A body of work with meaning.

Photography Is About More Than Beautiful Pictures

When you’re working on a project, something changes.

You stop chasing dramatic sunsets or famous landmarks.

You begin to notice the little things.

The first light hitting an HDB block.

An old uncle enjoying his kopi.

A cyclist waiting at the traffic lights.

Reflections after the rain.

The quiet corners of Singapore that most people walk past without noticing.

Those moments become the story.

The Journey Matters Just As Much

One thing I’ve enjoyed most about our SG61 Photowalk isn’t the photographs.

It’s the walking.

The conversations.

Meeting photographers from different backgrounds.

Discovering parts of Singapore we’ve never really explored before.

As photographers, we spend so much time looking through a viewfinder that we sometimes forget to simply enjoy the walk.

This project reminds us to do both.

And as a bonus, we all get a little healthier along the way.

A Collection You’ll Be Proud Of

Imagine looking back 5 or 10 years from now.

You probably won’t remember every holiday photo you took.

But I think you’ll remember saying,

“In 2026 NDP, I walked 61 kilometres across Singapore with my camera.”

You’ll remember the friends you met.

The places you visited.

The evenings spent chasing light instead of rushing home.

And you’ll have 61 photographs that tell the story of Singapore through your own eyes.

That’s a collection worth keeping.

Every Photographer Should Have a Personal Project

It doesn’t have to be SG61 Photowalk.

It could be photographing old neighbourhoods.

Street portraits.

Markets.

Trees.

Morning light.

Architecture.

Or simply documenting your own neighbourhood over a year.

A personal project gives your photography direction. It helps you become a better observer, a better storyteller, and often a better photographer.

Join Our SG61 Photowalk

If this sounds like a project you’d enjoy, we’d love you to walk with us.

The SG61 Photowalk is open to everyone. Whether you shoot with a camera or a smartphone, whether you’re just starting out or have been photographing for years.

Together we’ll walk 10 routes, each about 6.1km, across different parts of Singapore. Along the way we’ll slow down, enjoy the journey, make new friends, and create photographs with purpose.

By the end of the project, you’ll have walked 61km, created at least 61 meaningful photographs, and celebrated Singapore’s 61st birthday in a way you’ll remember for years.

If you’d like to be part of this journey, visit https://www.sgphotowalk.com to see the upcoming routes and register for a walk.

Sometimes the best photography project isn’t on the other side of the world.

Sometimes it’s waiting just outside your front door.
